Research Training Fellowship in India


Greetings from the Centre for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre)!!
India has a vast and excellent infrastructure for Education and Research in Science, Technology and Engineering with over 550 universities, around 3400 engineering & technology institutes, ~45,000 science colleges and an extensive network of ~2500 R&D institutions, mostly Government supported, which cover virtually every branch and facet of research and technology. In order to help the scientists of the developing countries in their capacity building in the fields of Science & Technology through their affiliation with the Indian Centres of Scientific Excellence, the NAM S&T Centre has initiated a new Fellowship Scheme titled ‘Research Training Fellowship for Developing Country Scientists (RTF-DCS)’ with full financial support of the Government of India, Department of Science & Technology (DST).
20 Fellowships for 6 months duration in the areas of Agricultural  Sciences; Biological and Medical Sciences,; Chemical Sciences;  Physical Sciences and Mathematics; Earth Sciences; Engineering;  Materials, Minerals and Metallurgy; and Science, Technology and Development are now available to the scientists and researchers of any developing country (except India) below 40 years of age, who possess at least a Master’s Degree in any Natural Science subject or equivalent degree in Engineering or Medicine and allied disciplines. The applicant should be presently working in a National R&D/Academic Institution in his/her home country, and should get the application endorsed by the Head of the Institution with a confirmation that if selected, he/she will be sanctioned leave for the Fellowship period and will join his/her duties back in the institution on completion of the Fellowship in India.
Full financial assistance will be provided to the Fellows including (a) round trip international airfare by excursion/economy class, (b) a consolidated monthly Fellowship amount of Indian Rupees (INR) 35,000 [about US$650 at the current exchange rate] (non-taxable) to cover accommodation, meals and other miscellaneous expenses and (c) a one-time grant of INR 15,000 [about US$280] for domestic travel, including airport transfers and visiting research institutions, attending scientific /events and field-trips within India.
The attached Announcement Brochure gives the detailed guidelines of the Fellowship scheme. To prepare the proposal, the applicants should carefully study the material available in these guidelines. Application for the award of the Fellowship should be submitted to the NAM S&T Centre in the prescribed format (appended at the end of the Brochure). The application form must be filled up only in typed script. Only electronic communication will be accepted and therefore all the material should be sent as attachments to an e-mail, after scanning the documents wherever required. Hard copies of the application are not required.
Selection will be made by the concerned Indian scientific institutions followed by an International Selection Committee and will be based on the quality of the research proposal submitted by the applicant and applicant’s academic merit.
The last date for submission of completed application form is Friday, 7th December 2012.
