PhD Research Fund at Ghent University

Ghent University, abbreviated to UGent, is one of the major universities in the Dutch-speaking region of Europe. It distinguishes itself as a socially committed and pluralistic university in a broad international perspective.

 

Ghent University supports students who want to take a doctorate under joint supervision of Ghent University and a non-Flemish partner university or institution for higher education. No restrictions are imposed on the field of research, nor on the age of the applicant.

 

The PhD-student has to stay minimum 6 months and maximum 24 months at Ghent University. The stay may be divided into several periods within the span of 4 years.

 

The candidate applies for this funding jointly with a promoter of Ghent University. To find a promoter candidates can browse through the list of faculties.

 

The Research Council makes a selection of the applications. The selection is based on the evaluation of the project, the added value of the stay at Ghent University for the joint doctorate, the qualifications of the applicant and the scientific potential of both the promoter’s research group and the research group at the partner institution.

 

The applications must be submitted in English.

 

The candidate can apply for either a PhD scholarship or for cofunding for his/her stay at Ghent University, depending on whether the candidate already receives a scholarship from the home institution/country during the stay at Ghent University.

 

The maximum amount for this scholarship is € 81.940 for 24 months (consisting of a grant of ± € 74.500 and a bench-fee of € 7.440 intended for the Ghent University promoter).

 

The cofunding consist of a fixed amount of € 1.000 per month’s stay at Ghent University to cover (part of) the costs for travel, accommodation, insurances, etc. plus a bench-fee of € 310 per month intended for the Ghent University promoter.

Global Fund for Women available

The Global Fund for Women is an international network of women and men committed to a world of equality and social justice. We advocate for and defend women's human rights by making grants to support women's groups around the world.

 

The Global Fund receives over 3,000 proposals a year and is able to award about 600 grants annually. Due to the large number of applications we receive, please allow seven to nine months to review your request. We accept applications throughout the year and award grants every three months.

 

We have three types of grants:

 

1. General Support Grants

 

These are flexible, small grants to cover general operating and project expenses.

 

• Your group must meet ALL the basic criteria (listed under "application requirements" of the grant application form) to be eligible for a grant.
• A group may only have one proposal of any type under consideration at a given time.
• Amount granted may be less than the amount requested if and when an award is made.

I. FY 2010 Funding Opportunity Announcement for global programs to better prevent and respond to gender-based violence (GBV) in refugee and conflict-affected populations, focusing on capacity-building, research and assessments to strengthen GBV prevention and response interventions among PRM populations of concern. Proposals should aim to strengthen the broader international community’s response rather than building the capacity of a specific or single organization. Proposals for GBV prevention and response programs in specific locations should be submitted through the appropriate regional and/or country specific funding opportunity announcement rather than through this announcement.

Applicants must clearly show how their planned projects will benefit PRM’s primary target populations.
